We invite you to join open source software enthusiasts, beginners, and the developer community by contributing to open-source projects! You can do this in a variety of ways:

• Prepare and share your project for collaboration
• Contribute to the betterment of a project via pull/merge requests
• Organize an event
• Mentor others
• Donate money directly to open-source projects

Everything you really need to know:

• Make sure to register between Sept. 23rd and Oct. 31st. PR/MRs can be submitted to participating projects on both GitHub and GitLab, between Oct. 1st and 31st.
• Maintainer-friendly rules (only contribute to opted-in repositories with the ‘hacktoberfest’ topic, and PR/MRs must be accepted by maintainers to get counted).
• You’ll unlock a digital badge when you register for Hacktoberfest, and level it up with each of your four pull/merge requests accepted during Hacktoberfest.
• Events can be hosted by the community virtually or in-person, and can be held in a variety of formats such as a meetup, live stream, or office hours.
