Group By Due date...

Thanks for the latest update and the new amazing feature to group task by different parameters. Unfortunately there is one I'm missing, but waiting for so long: "Group By Due".

I have a section to get all tasks happens (start, due, scheduled) in the next 7 days. I would like to group this tasks by date to get a small 7 day timeline. This is not yet possible.

Further more, I would like to use the group-subheadings for "group by filename" and "group by heading" as links to jump to the file, or the heading inside the file.

And also, I'm really pleased you asked about this.

I actually have been using group by due in my own development version of tasks for some time, and am very dependent on it.

It isn't included in this first release of grouping because we weren't sure about the presentation of the results for date-based grouping.

Here's what the current grouping by dates looks like in my development version:

1. First version:
   • #### 2022-05-01
   • The problem with this is that with large numbers of dates, it's just a wall of headings, and hard to tell one from another
2. Second version:
   • #### 2022-05-01 Sunday
   • This really helps, but there is still the problem that if I am grouping by multiple date fields, like group by due, group by scheduled, group by start, there are nested headings and you can't tell which heading matches which field.
3. Next version, if I can get it to work:
   • #### 📅 2022-05-01 Sunday
   • #### ⏳ 2022-05-01 Sunday
   • I tried putting in the emoji prefixes, as I think it will be really helpful to distinguish the field types. At the time, I couldn't get it working, but now that the first groups are released, I can have another go some time soon.

The point of all this is to say that I would really value feedback from users about what a next simple step for grouping by the various date types might look like, for common use cases.

To test it before release, you can:

1. Download the dist-verified file linked at the bottom of this validation action run
2. Decompress the dist-verified.zip
3. Copy it over the files in your current .obsidian/plugins/obsidian-tasks-plugin/ folder
4. Restart obsidian

Good idea. To keep to one idea per discussion, I've recorded that in #694.
