Recognize single number as day of current month in date entry fields

Usually I have my calendar open and look up possible due, scheduled or start dates. Right now it is kind of cumbersome to put those dates in the date entry fields. I have to write down the whole date.

It would be much easier to put just a number in, which is (as single number) recognized as the day of the current month. If this date is already in the past it could be recognized as the day of the next month. I think Todoist has this nice feature, which I always liked.

Thanks @eLindros, this is a good idea. In the meantime, did you try something like "next wed", and so on? To me, that's easier to type than the date with digits and dashes.

I think in the end it's a matter of preferences. I do sometimes use weekday names and enjoy this feature of your plugin. But more often than not I have a specific day of month in mind and don't know which weekday this day might be.

The beauty of the proposed feature, which I saw the first time on Todoist, is that you rarely have to specify a whole date with digits and dashes, just a number and you have covered a span of the next 30 days or so which should be more than enough for a large part of your tasks. Add a dash and another number and you got the next 365 days covered.

I've up-voted your proposed feature, but just in case you aren't aware: Tasks currently supports shortened date entry using MM/DD (for example, 1/29 or 10/11.)

Thanks. I didn't know that. As a German I tried something like 29.1 or 29/1 which didn't work :-)

Yeah, sorry. The library that I use for parsing the dates (chrono) is not easily internationalized. From their README:

The current fully supported languages are en, ja, fr, and nl (de, pt, and zh.hant are partially supported).

And figuring this out wasn't a priority (yet).

This feels like an obvious and simple enhancement.
See the picture attached. By typing "23" as due date, I would expect the next 23rd to be suggested.

As an aside: There can be a big difference between 'obvious' and 'simple'!
'Simple' requires knowing how a feature was implemented in its original contribution, and how amenable it is to change!

From the context of the original post, this is request about the Edit Task modal.

Reasoning:

1. It talks about date entry fields
2. Auto-Suggest was not introduced until mid July 2022, so months after this request was made.

With that in mind, and focussing on one-topic-per-request for manageability/well-being, your enhancement request here will be lost.

If you would like to make a feature request for consideration, you are welcome to:

1. Check to see if your request is a duplicate: existing auto-suggest requests
2. If not, go to Issues > New Issue > Feature Request and create a new request.
