Add a 'delete task' button to each task in query results - next to the 'edit task' button

I can edit tasks, but I cannot delete them from the query, it would be nice to have another button next to the edit button, to delete the task.

Thank you for the idea @imeed166. Do you want to delete the task completely or do you want to delete it only from the query results? If you want to delete it only from the query results, then that would be a difficult change. Tasks do not have a unique identifier.

Delete the task completely because I find myself searching for the task to delete in the source file. It would be easier to delete it completely from the query.

If I want to hide it from the query result, I'll just use a filter.

I join to this idea. I use Tasks mainly from my phone and I really need a button in the query to completely delete the task.

One issue with this is to consider what happens with nested tasks, like if an outer task is deleted, and it had sub-tasks.

Then either add a note about this in the documentation or find some way to differentiate the tasks that have nested tasks in the query, or both.

With the risk of deleting user data, I personally feel that something safer than just covering ourselves with docs is needed.

Showing nested tasks is a nice idea but it needs a lot of work to the core of the plugin.

Another idea I had was to show to the user in a modal the lines of text that will be deleted, perhaps only if it will be more than line, than allow them to confirm or cancel.

I'm not totally sure what the above means in practice, but just to let you know: to keep this discussion to a single topic or idea, any implementation from this discussion will be purely about deleting the task (and maybe its sub-tasks).

Just another idea, but to limit the risk of deleting user data, a safer option would be to add the "delete" button in the task edit form". To delete a task, the user would have to select the edit button in the query and then selecting delete from the form.

That has just been suggested explicitly in #1281

Rather than deleting, what if we we could mark the task as "abandoned" in the edit/add box? It would still exist in the note, but rather than putting a green checkmark with date after it, we would put a red X and date. I think it's useful to be able to distinguish abandoned/discarded tasks from those that were completed. I don't really like the idea of just removing the task altogether, as I don't particularly like deleting from old notes.

I am using the "task" tag to indicate active tasks and remove it to abandon a task if I do not want to delete it.

You can change task status or add tag like @Cito mentioned if you want to abandon the task. This is not the subject of this discussion, I want a button to delete the task in the original file from the query.

I second this approach. abandoned or cancelled tasks are very common right now to save the content i basically convert them to a bullet point but i would much rather prefer cancel status and a way to relook at them at a later point. so simply a status or cancel would be an awesome way to go.

If I read it correctly, you are agreeing with a request for the ability to totally delete a task line, to support your goal to be able to cancel and then reconsider later.
