Add done date automatically when reaching custom specified statuses (or add a cancelled date)

At the moment, we already have a done date being set automatically for transitions from -[ ] to -[x], but I would like to have custom statuses also be able to use this, or maybe even set their own data.

Assuming we have the following data:

• Topic 🔼 ➕ 2023-08-29

And I have a custom status like so:

• [-] => [ ], name: 'cancelled', type:'CANCELLED'.

When I transition from open [ ] to cancelled [-], I would like to add either a done date of when the cancellation occurred, or a custom emoji + date, like ❌ .

Currently, this results in the following:

• [-] Topic 🔼 ➕ 2023-08-29

But I want it to be automatically set to this:

• [-] Topic 🔼 ➕ 2023-08-29✅ 2023-08-29

Or if a custom setter was allowed, like this:

• [-] Topic 🔼 ➕ 2023-08-29 ❌ 2023-08-22

This way when I do a tasks filter like this:

done today

"Topic" will not be shown.

But if I filter like this:

I will still see the now cancelled "Topic" and a date that I removed it in my archive.

At the moment, I have to go through each item manually and add a done date, so I can do the following filter to see my removed tasks today:

done today
filter by function task.status.type.toLowerCase() == 'cancelled'

And then for my normal daily report, I have to remove this data, like so:

done today
filter by function task.status.type.toLowerCase() != 'cancelled'

But the main thing I'm looking for is the automation of when I transition to a custom status, in this case "Cancelled" I want to be able to add at least a "DONE" date, or better yet, a cancellation date of some kind.

This would help out my filtering a ton.

Proposed custom status possibilities:

1. • [-] => [ ], name: 'cancelled', type:'CANCELLED', on_transition:':x: '.
2. • [-] => [ ], name: 'cancelled', type:'CANCELLED', add_completed_flag:'true'.

Thank you for using the Tasks plugin, and for taking the time to make a suggestion.

Before you act on the following, please note that there is already a request to add a cancelled date in the system, so please do find that first, and consider what ways your request differs from that, if at all, to avoid spending your time creating a duplicate only to have it just be closed...

Background

As per the title of this section - Ideas: Any New Feature Requests go in Issues please, we don't track feature requests in Discussions any more.

(Bugs have always been tracked in Issues.)

Here are some of the reasons why the need for this change:

I had to leave Ideas Discussions open to allow people to comment on existing ideas, and so we could track their votes, so I renamed the section to try to point people to Ideas instead for new reports.
