Hotkey / shortcut for custom statuses, e.g., in-progress or forwarded?

Hi,
how can I setup a hotkey to set the highlighted task to a certain custom status? I only found the possibility to click with the mouse through the cycle implicitly defined by the custom statuses. The only hotkey I can set toggle between TODO and DONE.

For example, I'd like to have individual keyboard shortcuts for "TODO", "IN-PROGRESS", "DONE", "FORWARDED". Going to the text-based edit mode and typing in a character is also not very nice, because the switch disrupts the workflow.
Also - selecting multiple tasks (= lines) and setting them all to a given status would be nice.

Yes, that's the subject of:

• Add 'Set Status' commands [which will also allow users to set hotkeys for particular statuses] #1486

Also - selecting multiple tasks (= lines) and setting them all to a given status would be nice.

And that is:

• Make `Tasks: Toggle Task Done` work on multiple selected lines #1160
