How to turn off the popup of a file on rollover?

I'm not sure what the feature is called so I've bene unable to search to figure out how to turn it off.

I have a dashboard note set up with a bunch of task queries to sort my tasks by a set of context tags. The actual tasks themselves are usually in a separate note that relates to a specific project.

When I am in the view mode of my dashboard every time I scroll over a task a black with white text pop-up shows up that gives me the file where that task is located. I want to turn that off. If I need to get to the file I can click on the link symbol and it's jarring to have that popup every time I am just scrolling down my dashboard note.

What do I need to look for and how do I turn that off? I've tried looking in the main bsidian preferences, the task plug-in settings and in my computer preferences and can't find anything that seems like it will fix this.

I'm on a Mac running Catalina.

Hi @OogieM - that popup is the result of your using short mode in your query:

So if you removed short mode from your query, it won't appear.

You could always hide all the fields you don't want to see instead, using the other instructions listed in that same documentation page.

Alternatively, if you know CSS, you could probably hide it - you can get its name from here:

Note that the next release will have a fix in the positioning of the popup so that it does not obscure the task text.

I opened up the styles.css file in the folder obsidian-tasks and those lines do not appear anywhere in that file on my system. I have version 1.25.0 of the plug-in installed. I must be missing something.

Indeed. They are from the version that will appear in the next release. But I think/hope that the class name in that code will still be present in 1.25.0 and you might be able to use that to hide the popup.

But I do think your best bet is not to use the instruction that triggers the popup/tooltip in the first place.

I can do that but then the whole file is in the task description.

If I hide the backlink per the hide elements instruction the filename does not show but then there isn't a link symbol either. I do want to be able to get to the source file if I need to but I don't want it to be obtrusive like it is when the tool tip pops up all the time. Hiding the backlink removes the ability to get to the source note easily.

FWIW if I wanted to see the file name I'd have short mode off. But with it on to me it's fairly clear that to get to the file where the task is located I need to click the link symbol. So I don't really understand why I'd want to have the filename pop up when I just roll over the task. I'm trying to understand the use case that prompted that behavior because it seems unecessary to me. There must have been a reason someone thought that was useful but I'm not getting it.

No, it was added before I took over maintaining the plugin. If you cared enough, you could use git history to find when it was added, which would link to the relevant ticket. I'm afraid I don't have time to do that.

I think that is saying that if you turn off short mode, then the text displayed in the backlink is too long.
