Allow custom emoji or text for due date / recurrence

Would it be possible to change the emoji hooks to something different? I tend to type out tasks while I'm taking notes, and pulling up the emoji chooser or command bar slows me down. I'd love to see the ability to replace the 📆 emoji with something like >>. That way you could bang out a task incredibly fast - [ ] buy milk >> tomorrow. Would this be a significant effort to implement?

Thank you for the idea @bjork24 ! It wouldn't be too hard to do, I guess. 🤔 It would need to be configurable. Whenever one of these things becomes configurable, I wonder whether there should be an option to migrate existing tasks to the new setting. Otherwise, in your case all current due dates would be lost ...

As a workaround: do you know that you can bind the "Create or edit task" command to a hotkey? You can use it to create tasks without leaving your keyboard. The regular tab to change input, enter to save work there.

I'd like to see this as well. As a workaround I now mapped my PrtScr-button to 📅 using StrokesPlus, but a better option would be to define your own trigger for the duedate.

@schemar bringing this back up. There's an app I use alongside Obsidian called NotePlan, and it works beautifully with Obsidian, except that they use > as their due date indicator and Obsidian (with Tasks plugin) uses 📅. If I could swap 📅 for > to indicate due date, I could use the 2 seamlesly... I can manage finding and replacing all of the old 📅 indicators if there were the option to use a custom character as the due date indicator. If we could fix this, that would be amazing!

Hi @bitskc, @schemar doesn't maintain this plugin anymore - he handed it over to me in May 2022.

Current order of work

I recently updated the project's Roadmap to make visible the approximate order that I plan to work on things over the next year or two.

Likelihood of this being implemented

With only 5-upvotes and, to my knowledge, no duplicate requests, I do not see this being a priority to be implemented in the foreseeable future.

Not because it is unimportant, but because the total volume of requests is utterly impossible to ever reach the end of, especially in an unpaid volunteer project!

However, some other high-priority requests will require the task-line-parsing code to be largely re-written - so perhaps this may become a little easier to implement in future... That would be a long way away though.
