Checkbox item that is not a task still adds a complete date when checked

Is this expected behavior? I have a checkbox item that is not a task (I created it as part of a daily notes template before adding the tasks plugin so it doesn't have the #task filter). But when I check the checkbox, it adds the complete date. I'd prefer it not do that, but if it's expected, I'll live with it.

Hi @FrankNJohnson, I would like to help, if you can give some information on how to reproduce the problem.

Please supply a task that shows the problem, as text that I can copy and paste in to Obsidian.

And supply an exact list of steps to follow, to reproduce the problem. Or a video demonstration.

Finally, I need to know what other plugins you have enabled. Or ideally, that you can reproduce the problem in a test vault with no other plugins present.

Including what global filter you are using, if any. And why you believe the checkbox item is not a task?

No, it's not expected behaviour, and Tasks won't do it.

So either something else is doing it, or your Tasks settings are not what they think you are. Hence my request for more info...

Thanks so much for being willing to help me!

Sorry it's taken me a bit to respond - busy day at work.

Couple of caveats:

1. I'm pretty new to Obsidian (about 3 months)
2. I'm very new to the Tasks plugin (just a couple of days)
3. I am not a programmer, although i can understand general programming concepts fairly well if that makes sense

Here's a task as text before I check the checkbox:
- [ ] Blood pressure: 118/70

and after I check the checkbox:
- [x] Blood pressure: 118/70 ✅ 2022-10-20

I thought that it would need to look something like this in order to be considered a task by the plugin:
- [ ] #task Blood pressure: 118/70

And here is a test of the tasks plugin in a test vault with no community plugins installed except for Tasks:

If I had to guess, I'd say there's about a 95% chance that I've misunderstood something and perhaps a 5% chance that there's a true bug behind this. :)

Hi @FrankNJohnson This is super helpful. Thank you very much indeed.

I can think of two possibilities.

1. You think that you have the #task global filter enabled, but you don't. See The 'Global task filter' UI looks like #task is enabled as the default tag filter #736. Did you actually type in #task in the settings and then restart?
2. You have configured dataview to add Tasks completion fields.

Could either of these be the cause?

@claremacrae It was your first suspicion - I had not actually typed it in.

I'm VERY happy! Now on to experimenting with a tasks page to gather everything together.
