Forget all that! There is a way, and this plugin makes it easier! Just format the footnote like this:
and everything just miraculously works! However, one problem remains. While the task looks fine (if slightly off in Live Preview—who cares?) and works great, it doesn't show up properly in the overall Task list (i.e.
). It shows up, but with no text, just a link to the note. Now I guess I'll have to file a feature request. |

Interesting. I think a lot of people would use the QuickAdd plugin for this sort of thing. To have a file to which new tasks are added, and then use QuickAdd to grab some text and put it in that file, as a task. For more complicated examples, see https://obsidian-tasks-group.github.io/obsidian-tasks/advanced/quickadd/ |

I often find myself thinking of to-dos while I'm writing something else. Prior to Obsidian, I had to switch to my Reminders app, enter the to-do, and switch back to my writing, by which time I will have forgotten what I was about to write, or wait until I finished what I was writing to enter the task, by which time I will have forgotten what it was.
Obsidian has a wonderful way around that, but unfortunately it's quite clunky. I end up writing things like this:
I was hoping for some way to mostly hide those tasks, so that perhaps only the checkbox showed. Well, I found that—make it a
%%comment%%
! But that unfortunately leaves the checkbox on its own line, breaking up the flow of my text and forcing me to start a new paragraph in the middle of a sentence. Then I had another idea: Put the task in a footnote! Perfect!Except that Obsidian doesn't recogize tasks in footnotes.
Does anyone know of a way around this problem? If not, could Tasks be changed to support some sort of hidden or inline task function?
I mean, I could create a footnote, put a link in the footnote to a Tasks document, click the link, create a task, and then come back—but that's even more cumbersome than switching to another app.
