How can I migrate work items to a specific area path in the target project?

I have multiple projects and plan to consolidate all their work items into one common project. The plan is to create an area path for each project within the common project and move all work items under their respective area paths.

I tried doing this using a tool, but all work items are getting migrated to a single area path.

What specific settings do we need to configure in configuration.json? Any sample configurations would be helpful.
