v2.3 is still the best

v4.6 suffers from a lot more artifact issues than v2.3.  The only benefit I see for 4.6 is it's ability to do arbitrary time steps and a speed improvement that's not worth the tradeoffs.  If 2.3 could do do arbitrary time steps this it would be the perfect all purpose model.  Is there any chance of this happening?
