Would it be possible to have an option
"Raise all security limits by x% for y hours" ?
Case : you're sic and/or taking corticosteroids which raises A LOT your insulin needs (I can go up to 250% of my usual profile and still need more). With a big raise in profile, all securities kick in to stop the loop (max U/h, max IOB, max bolus etc).
Actually, the user needs to find all the settings and change them one by one. Once the crises is over, user needs to remember what the settings were and set them back as before.
A time limited raise would facilitate this difficulty and, as it will revert to the original settings by itself, the security will be back automatically.

According to you, what should be the min/max % value and what should be the min/max duration for the temporary safety limit adjustments?

Because it's "safety" we can't allow any % and any duration, so I imagine for example 24h max with a notification at the end when safety parameters switch back to standard values, then the user needs to set again the parameter if he is still sick 🤔.

No idea on the % limits to set. I upped my limits by 30 to 40% but that was a very wild guess.
It needs to be calculated (or decided logically) using the max profile % the user can set (I'd say max 250% to 300%) and the resulting "insulin needs" so that the security limit's new settings can be decided.

As for duration, I had thought 24h max too. 12h might be too short and annoying. From personal experiences, my "super" needs rarely exceed 3-4 days. You can trigger a 24h "raise" each day. Maybe a 48h duration if people think it might be more user friendly.

Keep in mind that some safety limits can be set at several places.

  • within AAPS
  • within pump (I have a max bolus also set within my Insight pump)

AAPS cannot override pump settings (at least Insight, and maybe other tube pumps with a screen and local UI could be in the same situation).

Ok. As I have only had patch pumps, mine were all set in AAPS...

For tubed pumps, the automatic action can set new limits in AAPS and maybe a message telling "Don't forget to change your security limit settings on your pump too" and it can give numbers to setup too "According to the % you set, the new XXX setting in your pump should be around YYY". This last part can be open to legal liability and must be discussed.

"Raise all security limits by x% for y hours" ?

Yes. Think this would be a most useful feature,
especially as it cannot be handled by current AAPS features like setting/changing to a temp profile.

It should by limited as @Philoul suggests.
To complicate things, maybe even use different limits base on the duration set (in allow higher mits for short durations)? 🤔
