Can I save my API Token?

Everytime I create a proxy host (and cert) for a subdomain, I need to enter in my cloudflare api token.
Is there a way to save the token so it gets auto-populated?

AI claims I can set an env var: CF_DNS_API_TOKEN
I tried this but it does not work

There is a sample in the docs using Cloudflare DNS both in docker run and compose syntax.
