Strange string.length behavior when retrieved from the configuration map

Hi,

I have an entry 'Mosos_DB_Password_Obfuscated' on the configuration map, which contains an obfuscated password. We use a user defined function to obfuscate and deobfuscate strings which has always worked fine, except - like I now discovered - when the string is retrieved from the configuration map.
This is how the function is called (last line):

And when I stop execution at line 175 where the string stored in $('Mosos_DB_Password_Obfuscated') is passed in the value variable, I find that this string is valid, but does not have a length.

From the Evaluate window in the debugger:

If I create a new variable in the Evaluation window to store $('Mosos_DB_Password_Obfuscated') in, I get the same result:

But of course length works effortlessly with other strings:

Since what is returned looks like a function, I have tried to use length() instead of length, but this results in
TypeError: Cannot call property length in object 882hhqohQ_TEMP. It is not a function, it is "number". And rightly so: I should be able to use length.

I use Mirth Connect 4.4.2. What is happening here?

Steps to reproduce this bug:

1. Add this key/value pair to the configuration map: key: test_key, value: 12345678.
2. Make a new channel.
3. Replace the return; in its deploy script with:

logger.info("'12345678'.length: " + "12345678".length);
logger.info("$('test_key'): " + $('test_key'));
logger.info("$('test_key').length: " + $('test_key').length);
return;

4. Deploy the channel.
5. Examine the top line in the Server Log on the dashboard.
   Expected value: $('test_key').length: 8
   Observed value: $('test_key').length: function length() {/*int length()*/}

You just beat me... I discovered that as well and I was about to add it to this page.

This snippet handles both types:

var valueLength;
if (typeof value == 'object') valueLength = value.length(); //it is a java "string" if value comes from the config map  
else valueLength = value.length;

I got another error on the usage of value[index] elsewhere in the code, which is fine with JavaScript but not with Java. However for both types value.substr(index, 1) can be used instead.
