Where are the bookmarks actually stored? #2273

Does anyone know where the bookmarks are actually stored?
It's a little uncomfortable not knowing where exactly it lives in my filesystem or does it live in a database?
And it is much faster if I were able to use a UI of my choice to manage my bookmarks
