Using authjs without a framework?

I have a nextjs application that would be configured using next-auth and would be a standard setup as per the docs.

However, I also have a chrome extension (built with react + typescript) that requires authentication management and it would be great to not hand-roll my own client-side auth management and instead piggy-back on the auth setup in my nextjs app.

My question is; is this possible? How would I authenticate a chrome extension using Auth.js against a nextjs app that uses next-auth?
