We understand your concerns and will therefore opt to show the search results in the content pane indeed! We internally discussed the place of the search input and would suggest that the search input stays in the primary navigation. The main reason for this is that you would be able to search through both collections and objects. When the search input moves to the content pane, it would suggest that you can only search through that collection in particular.
