Power Calculation Question

In some of our Racks, there are distributors plugged into the PDUs that serve the machines with power (no idea why the hell, but that's another question). What happens is that they don't calculate Power Utilization. Within the Distributor there's no cascading, so i would expect it to work.
To me it looks like that PDUs only calculate power if they are connected to a feed, but not if they are plugged into a Power Outlet.
Probably i'm missing something? How does netbox recognize PDUs at all?
