netbox rq workring quitting after 10 minutes

I can't seem to figure out what is happening. Sometimes the web interface in netbox will be insanely slow. I found out it's because the rq service is stopping. When looking at logs, I see it's because redis is timing out.

The redis server is running and redis-cli ping replies with pong. I verified the redis server is listening on the configured port. What's more is that when I activate the rq worker, netbox speeds right back up to where I'd expect it to be so redis IS working.

What might cause the rq worker to timout to redis?

Turns out if the VM is starved for RAM services randomly die and revive...who would've known
