Custom field multiple object with filter?

This is in version 3.6.1 but don't see anything regarding this in later versions.

I have created a custom field that is multi object on type of DCIM->Device. The field works but I don't see a way to apply a filter. Want to basically only display certain device types/roles in that drop down list. I do see the "choice set" but don't see how that can apply a filter either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
