Custom Script for IP Address Assignment / Mask

Is anyone using a custom script for assigning an IP Address? To be honest currently the way netbox requires adding a prefix mask when assigning an IP address has caused a lot of confusion/mistakes for users during our lunch and learn. We are working to migrate from phpIPAM where our users are used to just clicking an available ip

Originally was going to create an issue but I see that the decision has come up before based on @candlerb comments here #7845 (comment)

So I'm trying to come up with a more intuitive way for my users (mostly it helpdesk staff) to quickly assign an IP address without having to know much more than the prefix.
