Advice for modeling Lenovo System x3850 X6 (6241)

Hello All,

As one of the devices we are using is Lenovo System x3850 X6 (6241) i am looking for advice about modeling it.

To spare you the read here is the gist what the box is:

• 4U rack server with no brains
• 4 Cages for CPU "Books"
• 1 Cage for Storage "Book"
• 1 Cage for Primary I/O "Book"
• 2 Cages for Optional I/O "Books"
• Storage and I/O "Books" have PCIe slots
• 4 modules for PSU's

Now as far as i can see i have 2 approaches:

• Model "books" as module bays, add module bays in each module (e.g. I/O)
• • cpu is fine, storage/io has issues with adding cards in the pcie slots
• Model "books" as device bays, add module bays in each "device" (storage, I/O)
• • have not tried but i guess it should not hit the issue with module in module

If modeled as modules it becomes very hard to add cards etc.

I am open to suggestions :)

Hi, I Am guessing this is a blade chassis. So the blades or books should be device bays. I/O books should be modules/module-bays. Storage isn't something that is modelled in this repository

To add onto this, storage is not modelled yet. I had a proposal to add storage management into NetBox, but there has been many higher priorities unless we find someone who is a storage expert that can help with some of the finer details.
