Missing artist.jpg art on some artists

I am trying to fix an issue where some artists do not have an image in the Home Assistant GUI.
All my music is on a NAS with a drive letter mapped.
I am using the suggested folder structure of Artist/Albums.
When I click on "Update metadata" or "Refresh item" I get:
"no element found: line 1, column 0"
What does this mean?
I have three metadata providers set up, fanart.tv, MusicBrainz and "The Audio DB"

Whilst investigating I have found loads of artist.nfo and album.nfo files but they are all zero bytes - what are they for?

For the artists that do have working images, I expected to see artist.jpg, fanart.jpg and banner.jpg files in my NAS, but can't find any, where are they stored?

Sounds like you have a bunch of problems.

https://kodi.wiki/view/NFO_files These should not be blank and might be causing problems. You should remove them.

Artist images which are downloaded by MA are stored in the MA database not on your NAS

Massive thanks OzGav, it makes sense now. No idea how I got a server full of .nfo files and I guess MA wouldn't go looking for art if it thought I had some locally. As you suggested, I deleted every .nfo file and now the artist art is coming through!
Is there any benefit in recreating nfo files (I'm using MA and Home Assistant only), I can't think of any gains if the MA database is local and has the information in it.

I don’t think there is any benefit unless you want to override the metadata that comes from sites such as theaudiodb
