Code running continuously after each modification

Is there any way I can stop the code from running continuously, without restarting the application? Once I start a program, it keeps running every time I modify something. How can I run the program only when I want?

It's not the perfect solution, but you can stop the execution by double-clicking the pause button. If the button is greyed-out, first step back one instruction (<), restart the execution, and then pause it. It should not run automatically as long as you have paused it.
