  • (some/many) exercises should be discussions among students, will help build their capacity to talk about the subject matter, can give specific list of questions they should try to discuss to help them get going
  • there was a suggestion to let students turn in their work a second time to get it correct but they have to show it with a TA or prof in office hours and explain what they did to fix it first, she said that it didn't take more time than normal office hours
  • One question was "will the custom software library leave the students without a useful tool once they leave the class?"
  • education folks think it is a good thing to see variability in students solutions to problems, i talked about all the different ways the students figured out how to model the causeway road, this is very good data that they often code for in studies, can connect to increasing diversity in engineering
  • one person asked "what kinds of things to you imagine students discussing about these problems?" also interested in promoting discussion
  • suggestions of a parallel writing course that students take at same time where they have to write about the problems solved in our class
  • will add more if I remember
