External servers with domain - can't access with external ip due to supplier

I have set up komodo on an external server but am struggling to connect it to my local server.
I am unable to use the external ip of my local server due to the way my supplier is set up so have created a domain https://komodo.mydomain.com pointing to the internal ip of the Periphery container but get bad gateway. I have tried accessing with the local ip and I'm successful that way.
