Compiled and operating periphery on pi3/arm7l

I'm still using a few pi3 for some homelab stuff. This is just a note to say I got the periphery component to compile and run successfully on raspberry pi 3B+/arm7l; Raspbian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm); 32bit, including a test deployment of hello-world from a git/gitea repository, using the komodo core interface. Periphery compiled pretty much out-of-the-box.

Still experimenting, but wow - thanks for a great tool for docker/server management!

How did you only compile the periphery component?

I try to get it running on a pi1, RAM is a problem...

Compiling periphery for ARMv7l from Windows 11 via QEMU

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share a method I successfully used to compile the Komodo periphery component for ARMv7l (targeting an Orange Pi Zero running Debian Bullseye), while developing from a Windows 11 machine.

✅ Summary of the steps

1. Install QEMU 10 on Windows.

2. Install Debian Bullseye for ARM in QEMU
   Follow this guide:

   When launching QEMU, use these improved options:

   -accel tcg,thread=multi -smp 4 -m 4096

3. Inside the Debian ARM VM, install required packages:

   sudo apt update
   sudo apt install git gcc clang cmake

4. Install Rust:

   curl --proto '=https' --tlsv1.2 -sSf https://sh.rustup.rs | sh

   Then restart the shell or run:

   source $HOME/.cargo/env

5. Clone the Komodo repository:

   git clone https://github.com/moghtech/komodo.git

6. Navigate to the periphery component and build it:

   cd komodo/client/periphery
   cargo build --release

   ⚠️ This step can take several hours. The build may fail near the end, but the binary is usually successfully produced in:

   target/release/periphery
   

7. Strip the binary to reduce size:

   cargo install --force cargo-strip
   cargo strip

8. On the ARMv7l target device, run the official install script (which installs the default x86 binary):

   curl -sSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/moghtech/komodo/main/scripts/setup-periphery.py | python3

9. Replace the x86 binary with your ARM-compiled one:

   sudo cp /path/to/your/armv7l/periphery /usr/local/bin/periphery

10. Enable and start the service:

sudo systemctl start periphery
sudo systemctl enable periphery

✅ Done! You should now have periphery running natively on ARMv7l.
