Add-on Store Deprecation Notice (Effective v2.3.81)

Starting with version 2.3.81, the Add-on Store will be removed from NG Extension Manager.

Background

The decision to remove the Add-on Store comes after careful consideration of the following points:

• The Add-on Store’s functionality is limited by Chrome extension API restrictions.
• The feature introduces unnecessary complexity for typical users.
• Maintaining the Add-on Store increases development and maintenance overhead.
• Most users do not utilize the Add-on Store, reducing its overall impact.

What This Means for Users

• The Add-on Store UI and integration will no longer be included in NG Extension Manager beginning with version 2.3.81.
• Add-ons will still be available for manual download and installation via the GitHub repository:
  https://github.com/modcoretech/addons/tree/main/Add-on%20Store%20NGEM
• Older versions of NG Extension Manager will still include the Add-on Store, but it may not function correctly or may already be disabled.
• Manual installation will require enabling developer mode and loading extensions manually.

Timeline

• The exact release date of version 2.3.81 is not yet determined.
• The Add-on Store shutdown will officially begin with the release of version 2.3.81.
