📦 Add-on Store (formerly Plugin Discovery) – Service Update & Changes

Hello,

Plugin Discovery was a service provided by UNBOUND LABEL, integrated into various extensions developed by us. We are currently making some important changes and would like to inform you about what is happening.

🔧 Service Shutdown Notice

The Plugin Discovery service is no longer operational.

For NG Extension Manager:

• Plugin Discovery was introduced in version 2.3.5
• It was available up to version 2.3.6
• In these versions, the service will no longer function
• The upcoming version 2.3.7 will include fixes and new features

The service has been officially shut down. The behavior might vary slightly between users, so if you encounter issues, do not report them — this is an intentional shutdown as part of planned improvements.

✅ Summary of Changes

1. Terminology Update

• Plugins are now called Add-ons
• Plugin Discovery is now called the Add-on Store
• This reflects the unified service architecture across multiple extensions

Note: The term service indicates that the logic is embedded in multiple extensions and connects to our servers or GitHub to retrieve data.

2. Planned Features for Add-on Store

⚠️ These features are planned but not guaranteed. Implementation may change depending on technical or organizational decisions.

• Changelog Modal
  A new "Changelog" button will open a modal showing changes for each add-on version.

• Service Status Toggle
  The Add-on Store can be taken offline temporarily for maintenance. If this happens, you will receive a clear error message with an explanation.
  We will not deactivate the service indefinitely unless we officially discontinue support.

• Extended Metadata for Add-ons
  We plan to expand the existing plugin.json (soon renamed to addon.json) to include:

  • Developer name
  • Version info (already included)
  • Compatibility metadata (e.g., if an add-on requires the latest version of NG Extension Manager)
  • And potentially more

While plans may evolve, the renaming from Plugin to Add-on and the transition from Plugin Discovery to Add-on Store are definitive and will be reflected in upcoming releases.
