Convert .ksplat to .ply

Hi Mark,

Thank you for your significant work and contributions to the 3DGS community. Many developers, myself included, adopted your viewer and the .ksplat compression early on. The combination of 2SH, effective compression, and your active development made it the obvious choice.

As the landscape of Gaussian Splatting tools has evolved and your time has understandably become more limited, I, and likely many others, have begun to move towards other technical solutions.

However, there is one critical piece missing for a smooth transition: .ksplat to .ply conversion. Without a conversion path, any migration is destructive, as it would render all existing user data in the .ksplat format unusable since no other viewers can read it.

I know you've mentioned in previous discussions that this is a planned feature. I was hoping to get an update on whether this is likely to happen in the near future, or if I should begin exploring alternative options.

Sorry for the late response, you should be able to load .ksplat files in the Spark Gaussian Splatting viewer and then download as an SPZ: https://sparkjs.dev/viewer/ From there you could load into something like SuperSplat and convert it to a .ply

@shrimbly I recommend splat-transform which can convert from .ksplat to .ply (and can do a lot of other useful 3DGS processing too).
