Long pressing should say what a button does

Feature request

Regarding the column of buttons on the left. The user is just plain scared to push any of them.
One would think of that holding one's finger down on one of them would reveal some message about what it does. But for some reason that's not the case.

Pros

Isn't there a standard way of telling the user what something does without it having to do it to find out? (I'm talking about other than having to read the manual.)
