As of January 25 2022, Sentinel-2 products were migrated to Processing Baseline PB-04.00. The Planetary Computer conversion of L1C to L2A products relies upon the Sen2Cor processor. In order to accommodate the format changes introduced with PB-04.00, the Planetary Computer Sentinel-2 L2A production process has been updated to leverage Sen2Cor v2.10. Per the 2.10 release notes, the default configuration parameters are recommended by ESA to achieve similar results to the L2A Core Products. However, even with the recommended settings, differences between Sen2Cor L2A products and “Core” L2A products do exist. Furthermore, the Copernicus EO Support team has acknowledged that pixel-level differences may exist between Sen2Cor and the L2A Core Products due to differences in the JPEG2000 encoding library (OpenJPEG vs Kakadu for L2A DHUS products) and the DEM being used. OpenJPEG 2.3 and the 30m PlanetDEM were used for processing the L2A products.
