Local webserver not running? Can´t access it

Hi!

Stumbled onto the BirdNet-Pi possibility to record and analyze bird-sounds. Got my Raspberry 4 out, new memory card and installed the latest OS onto it by using the Raspberry PI Imager tool. Booted up and pasted the install command line into the terminal.

Rebooted and checked the Tools section to enter my BirdWeather ID and did the soundcard setup in Alsamixer. Can SSH into the pi, Local address is 192.168.2.118 - And .local works on the pi when accessed with a monitor/keyboard setup in chrome.

Cant access it either by IP address or http://birdnetpi.local on my network from another PC/Mac.

So, the question is, does it require some additional webserver setup? And, how can I check if the server is running? Other settings?

Hi.

I recently setup a BirdNET-Pi as well and I run into some problems, perhaps this will help you.

1. Choose "Raspberry Pi OS (Legacy, 64-bit) Lite" (emphasis mine) for your SD card. The "Raspberry Pi OS Lite (64-bit)" did not work for me.
2. There's a problem with pyarrow version 21 that will cause problems, see the workaround you need to apply – Species stats tab doesn't work – 502 Bad Gateway Nachtzuster/BirdNET-Pi#406.

Hi!

Thank you fore great advice.

I choosed "Raspberri PI OS 64-bit (reccommended) fro the raspberry pi imager. It is the full desktop version.
I´ll make a new test install with another SD card using the Legacy 64-lite as well.

I´ve also checked out the thread you linked to, seems like this is not the case for my install. I can´t reach the PI itself at http.
get an This site can’t be reached. http://192.168.2.118/ is unreachable. ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE

I can ping it, then ir responds. Login via SSH also works. How can I check if the webserver is running?

Now I don't remember what did not work, in my case, for non-Legacy version of "Raspberry Pi OS", I think it was also a problem with the webserver.

The webserver used is caddy, the best advice I can give is to check the logs and see if you can spot the reason why it doesn't work (note example for a working system):

So I:

1. Reinstall the board with Raspberry Pi OS (64-bit).
2. Install Nachtzuster fork.
3. Reboot.
4. Check http://SOMEIP/ → works.

Note: it shouldn't matter, but I'm booting from SD-over-USB (it didn't want to boot from SD card slot).
