Hi! First of all, thank you so much for creating and sharing the AdMob plugin for MAUI—it’s really impressive work! I’ve been trying to achieve something similar, but I’ve run into some challenges and would love to hear how you managed to make it work.

I attempted to create a binding from Android Studio using "com.google.android.gms:play-services-ads:24.0.0" and exported an .AAR file to use in MAUI projects. However, by default, the binding isn’t transitive, and it doesn’t bring in all the necessary dependencies. I also tried using other plugins to build a "fat AAR," but unfortunately, I haven’t been successful yet.

Could you share some insights into how you approached this? Any tips or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Hello, @franssjz, thank you for the kind words. Unfortunately I don't have experience building binding libraries; I simply used a couple of existing ones for this plugin.

You could try pinging @jcsawyer on https://github.com/jcsawyer/Jc.GoogleMobileAds.iOS - he's created a bindings package for the iOS AdMob SDK, he should have more insight into this; though I can't say if there's a big difference between creating iOS and Android bindings libraries.

@franssjz I can't say I've ever tried/needed to create any Android bindings as these are currently still actively maintained by dotnet for things like Google Mobile Ads.

I have a blog post detailing where I started in the world of iOS native bindings if you're interested. I have since rebuilt the GMA iOS bindings from the basic old template, and updated it to be on a more relevant version of the SDK and without all the complexity of Xamarin Downloads, cake builds, etc.

By the looks of things, Android bindings are typically far more 'automatic' than iOS and mostly leverage transform files to transform Java package names into more friendly C# namespaces... I'm not sure I can say com.google.android.gms:play-services-ads:24.0.0 actually has a dependency on anything though? So I'd be curious to hear what issues you're running into.

I don't use this library directly beyond contributing to it, but I did use it as the original basis for my Avalonia UI implementation (and have tried to contribute a little bit back) with which I created TapTap Remote, available on both the iOS App Store and Google Play.

And since completing the project, I think I've developed somewhat of a passion for contributing to open source software more so than closed source products!

@marius-bughiu thanks for the plugin. I used it in my app "HAY! How Are You?" It is simple and sketchy style app for mode tracking. currently it is available on
google play.

I hope I can make version for iOS in the future.

I have one question regarding the plugin. I use my new app everyday. Since 5 days I make the plugin show real ads, and I get the same ad everyday .. I'm not sure if this is from admob or from the plugin caching the ad. If you could pleae advise if there is a way to request new ads from adMob or disable caching in the plugin? and thank you very much

About seeing the same ad every day: that's AdMob's ad serving logic, not the plugin itself. AdMob can serve the same ad repeatedly depending on things like your location, ad inventory, targeting preferences, and the amount of traffic your app gets. As your app grows, it will attract more a more diverse ad inventory.

First of all, thanks for the great plugin!

I've successfully integrated Plugin.AdMob into my .NET MAUI app Finance Planner Play store link / App Store link, and everything works great on both Android and iOS.

I did, however, receive a (temporary I hope 😊) AdMob ban due to suspicious traffic, which I later discovered was caused by some well-meaning friends repeatedly clicking the ads to "support" the app. Just a heads-up for others: even with the best intentions, this kind of behavior can trigger Google's invalid traffic detection.

Other than that, the plugin has been a huge help in getting AdMob up and running in my MAUI project quickly and smoothly.

We are trying to target the app for the F.I.R.E. movement ('Your Journey to Financial Freedom').

Hi @crwsolutions 👋, thanks so much for the kind words and for sharing your experience & I’m really glad to hear the plugin worked smoothly for your app on both Android and iOS. Also thank you for raising the issues you found and providing guidance on how to fix some of them.

Regarding the ban you got - yes, it's kind of expected, Google are pretty adamant about not clicking on your own ads, which is why they also enforce test ads during development / testing. Best way in which your friends can support your app is to convince others to install it, to use it daily, and to leave a review on the app store. That will take your app higher in rankings, thus reaching more people, etc.

I'm using this in my .Net 9 Maui Android (for the moment). It appears to be working fine on the first page, then I go to the second page and it's working fine, then I go back to the first page and repeatable error that crashes the app: "System.ObjectDisposedException: 'Cannot access a disposed object.
Object name: 'Android.Gms.Ads.AdView'.'

Hi @fatscally, I'd like to take a shot at fixing your particular scenario. Have you got a sample project reproducing the issue? I've opened #52 and hoping we can continue the discussion there.

In the sample projects theres already a second page when you click on "Advanced native ads usage" and from there you can navigate back and everything works as expected, but I asuume that's only because the previous page is not disposed; your setup must be different.

All the information I have is in this thread. It is .Net Maui that disposes of the objects. Keep in mind that I am developing on the lowest cheapest phone I could find with very low memory, and I have noticed that it Tombstones everything immediately.

Hi, I was playing around with the Transient vs Singleton registration. As far as I can see it behaves the same. In both cases, Ads are refreshed on forward navigation, and not on back navigation. Are my observations correct? Having it refreshed on back navigation would be indeed a nice extra. @marius-bughiu Any advice on how to do that, or would you recommend the solution provided by @fatscally .

Hi @crwsolutions, yea, I also gave it a try with an MVVM setup to see if that changes anything here - 786c0f1, but everything seems to work. My best guess would be that the ad is inside another control which does the actual disposing, so I'll just have to simulate that and see if it's something I can address in the plugin.

Regarding ad refreshes - the banner ad refreshes itself automatically after a period of time - this is baked into the native Android/iOS controls; I think there's even a setting for that on the ad unit, to control how often it refreshes. If you want to manually refresh on back navigation, I'd say use the solution above. I'd like to avoid baking something like this in the plugin as I am not sure how compliant it is with AdMob's policies (you're basically generating a new impression).

Since we have already had one ban, I am also not so inclined to modify the behavior. So for now I will leave it as it is 😊.
