I was making ~90 minute K=34 plots on my Mac Studio Ultra using four external Intel Optane 905p's in RAID0 (spanning two thunderbolt lanes). The Optanes were formatted in MacOS Extended Journaled.
Then I added two more Optanes, for a total of 6 drives RAID0 across 3 thunderbolt lanes, and this time I formatted them in APFS. I expected this to be faster, naturally.
However, the plotting time more than doubled. I am not sure if APFS does not play well with MadMax? Anyone know?
