[FEATURE REQUEST]Plugin mechanism (for 4.0)

I would like to implement a plug in mechanism to add some features dynamicaly without recompiling / or a minimum
I am not sure how to achieve that

• using lua interpreter ?
• new code mechanism
• is there any existing library which do that ?

Any idea / contribution is welcome
