Is FakerPHP still actively maintained?

Hi, the https://github.com/FakerPHP/Faker/ library, which is currently used by Laravel, appears to be no longer actively maintained. Many issues and pull requests are being ignored and are automatically closed without any responses from the maintainers. This could potentially impact projects relying on Faker for testing and seeding.

I am not sure that I would classify it as "no longer actively maintained" as there has been some activity within the last few months.

However, having reviewed the recent issues and PRs I would agree that it is not getting the attention from the maintainer that it probably deserves and issues are not being responded to and improvements that seem like good ones are not being merged.

This is the problem with repos that are owned and maintained by individuals rather than groups or foundations or whatever.

the original is long dead

the one you linked was forked by some members of laravel community a few years to keep it updated

tbh though, that library has worked for its intended purpose for many years without requiring many changes really

its not even intended to be installed in production, its just for generating some slightly nicer looking test data

do you have a specific issue with the repo that isn't being addressed and preventing you from using the package in a way necessary to meet your data faking needs? or is your concern purely that activity seems low?

I have to fork the repository because I need to generate data that isn’t available in the original package. Other users and I have created pull requests, but if they are ignored, there’s nothing we can do. We are forced to create new forks to meet our needs.
