'LinuxSSH' object has no attribute 'channel'

I'm getting the following error when trying to configure the prompt using 'set_base_prompt'

'LinuxSSH' object has no attribute 'channel'
  File "test.py", line 10, in <module>     conn.set_base_prompt(pri_prompt_terminator='>')
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^AttributeError: 'LinuxSSH' object has no attribute 'channel'

Invocation (the error is on the conn.set_base_prompt line

device = {
        "device_type": "linux",
        "host": "x.x.x.x",
        "session_log": "netmiko_session.log",
        "fast_cli": False,
        "auto_connect": False
    }
conn = netmiko.ConnectHandler(**device)
conn.set_base_prompt(pri_prompt_terminator='>')
conn.establish_connection()

How do I customize the prompt before connecting?

Just for reference for future people--you can't use:

auto_connect: False

And then call anything that uses the SSH channel (since it doesn't exist until conn._open() is called).

Have you tried using these environment variables for Linux:

LINUX_PROMPT_PRI = os.getenv("NETMIKO_LINUX_PROMPT_PRI", "$")
LINUX_PROMPT_ALT = os.getenv("NETMIKO_LINUX_PROMPT_ALT", "#")

os.environ["NETMIKO_LINUX_PROMPT_PRI"] = "myprompt>"
# Test if environmental variable is set ok

# Yes, it is ok
conn = netmiko.ConnectHandler(**device)

I get an error when trying to open connection with ConnectHandler
Pattern not detected '[\\$\\#]' in output.
Seems like the pattern is not set properly even though the environmental variable is defined and LINUX_PROMPT_PRI inside of LinuxSSH class it is set correctly to "myprompt>"

What am I doing wrong?

This should only be set to the single terminating character:

os.environ["NETMIKO_LINUX_PROMPT_PRI"] = ">"

If you are still getting an error after doing this--please post your full exception stack trace so I can see where the error is coming from.
