Auto Running Number

Is there any way to do the auto-running numbers? Let's say when I try to create a new product, I would want my Reference No to be the auto-generated number, but I cannot figure out where should I make changes to this existing code. It is in the ProductDataGrid.php?

Hi there,
You can create a attribute for product and you can set auto-generate number on the input box as value.

But what if the auto-generate number is based on a drop-down selected category? For example, if I select Clinic, then should as below:
Clinic - C00001
Hospital - H00001

Still, using the input box too?
