Citation manager constantly updating citations, cannot properly insert citations

Hi @krassowski, thanks for bringing us this brilliantly handy kit for us. However I'd report a potential bug with citation manager here

Citation manager version 1.0.0
Jupyter server version 2.14.1
JupyterLab version 4.3.4
Zotero version 7.0.13

Problem: with working internet connection and Zotero running, citation manager is stuck with a message 'Updating citations' without making actual progress in updating. I can use JupyterLab GUI to search for Zotero's citable items and see that the list is correctly updated. However, no response is observed when I attempt to insert in-text citation. Attempt to insert Bibliography list in a new Markdown cell returned an empty bibliography list, even though the sidebar correctly lists all existing in-text citations. Problem is observed repeatedly on a Dell laptop running Windows 11 and an Acer laptop running Windows 10, both using latest version of MS Edge.

The problem would temporarily disappear as I migrate all texts into a new .ipynb file and insert all citations manually again, but would re-emerge as I attempt to add new citations.
