"et al." causing sentence issues

The full-stop that some academics use after "et al" is being treated as a new sentence, for example "... Wells et al. 2020." becomes two sentences: "... Wells et al" and "2020".

HI @agbarnett, are you using the default sentence segmenter? See here, you could try the PragmaticSegmenter which is slower but works better than the default implementation.

I don't remember whether it was better at your specific case, in case let me know.

Thanks for the rapid answer. I was using grobid via another app called papercheck, so I'm limited in what options I can change. I think I've found a work around where I can edit the text file to remove the full-stops.

@agbarnett I'm wondering, those elements, Wells et al. 2020. for example should be identified as references and the sentence segmentation is normally avoided when the reference breaks a sentence. If you share the article I can have a look.
