Consult-dir-find-file does not seem to work for me

I use consult with vertico. Whenever I try to use consult-dir-find-file after entering a directory with consult-dir and a file that I know exists in a subdirectory it just opens a dired buffer at the directory I initially selected while leaving the minibuffer open, but unselected. Am I doing something wrong or is this an issue with vertico?

The exact order of what I do:
C-x C-d -> select a directory -> RET -> enter partial filename -> C-x C-j
