Z carriage Motor Mount Extension

With talking in the VoidstarLab Discord with other people about the project, i have learned that the motors heat up.
While this isn't much of a problem when printing the carriage itself in PETG/ABS i still think this might be an issue.
Coupled with issues of not getting any 34mm motors made me think to look at the motor carriage themselves.
This is what ive found:
Carriage actually has decent wiggleroom(about 2mm worth to each direction) to make a thin strip of air insulate itself.
The motor getting screwed in the front is not spaced(least it seems to be) which can be solved by stuff like this cork spacer
Alongside this, i think it would be a great opertunity to actually open the back of the carriage to allow installation of extended motors

this would allow us to install a lengthy motor(original has ~46mm room) as well as enabling us to install a aluminium heatsink for cooling off the motors
As well as this, it might be needed that the Z-screw motor mount need to be redesigned as well to make the lead screw easily replacable, as the original design cannot incorporate a leadscrew coupler. among other things i think this should increase effectiveness. possibly.

i think this might require a whole redesign of the z carriadge, not goonna lie(least the screw part)

wonder of one can replace the leadscrew with a belted Z axis so we dont need to use that much physical space on the top of the extrusion.
seems like its a too tightly budged position to do so, though.

possibly the MGN9 block mount also needs some extension as the initial design seem to heavily keen on being obstructed by the 2040 extrusion, or the MGN12 assembly bolts if the block is already on the rail.

@TheOnlyMann -- not sure why you'd want to add flexible components to a drive that is supposed to precisely position the nozzle...

from what i can tell, its more of a spacer level of flexibility than just being whole wobbly thing. seemed like a good idea at the time, and i dont think its all that bad. but thanks for the info. might be mistaking it

Heat from the motors is not really an issue. I run them at 24v 1300mA, and they aren't even warm to the touch. All my parts are PLA and have held up just fine. You're more than welcome to make these modifications, but just thought I would add my personal experience as a datapoint.

The motors don't have much torque going through them. The machine isn't really optimized for speed after all.

thanks for the clarification! still need to adjust the carriage for myself since it might be too small for the motors, but thanks for correcting my mistake. really new to this hobby thing so ty

No worries! Extending the motor housing should be relatively simple to do in CAD
