landing page or url?

hi.
I checked the base_url setting in serverapp.py.
The setting is '/' like this. I changed this to . and tested, but it only landed at localhost:8888/lab. Even if I directly enter localhost:8888/./lab, it eventually lands as localhost:8888/lab. When starting the server, the address confirmed is localhost:8888/./lab. Can you tell me why? If you know, please tell me where you are landing..
