Improve our community and contribution guide for new users

We had a lot of helpful conversation about onboarding new people and helping them navigate the project. Here are the main things that stood out.

Paint points

• It is confusing to know whether executablebooks or jupyterbook2 is "the main spot" for the project.
• It's hard to know the 'one place to look' to navigate the project.
• People don't know what a team compass is.

Implementation

• Extend the team compass to be the "source of truth" contributing guide
  • Add sections about navigating project repositories
  • "Where to add docs, where to work on X type of code, etc"
  • Document a "what is the team compass" section
• In mystmd: Lift anything that's not myst-specific to the contributing guide
• In Jupyter Book: replace the "community" section with a team compass section (they can share navigation bars)

Looks like you captured it well. I spent a few minutes perusing the websites since I had not done so in a while, here are a handful of observations, I hope they are useful:

• I started on https://executablebooks.org/en/latest/
• The community forum is linked prominently, but (as you mentioned) it is not very active; the discord channel is totally missing, consider adding this prominently as done on JB2 compass-contribute page
• JB1 is on the front page, but no mention of JB2. In addition, it is not mentioned on the tools page. Updating these and making sure they point to the right websites for each project would help navigate https://executablebooks.org/en/latest/tools/#jupyter-book
• Compass page states that each project will have its own compass, maybe this should be more prominent and located at the top of the page with boxes/links to the other team compass pages https://compass.executablebooks.org/en/latest/
• The banner on the JB1 website home page is fairly obvious and informative. If you move more information to executablebooks.org, you might want to add a hyperlinke to it in the JB1 banner
• JB2 site (next.jupyterbook.org) it is not clear ho

trying to keep track of the compasses, communities and their respective pages/projects (note btw I am skimming, not reading content thoroughly, so I might have missed some details).

• executable books has a compass in a logical place https://compass.executablebooks.org/en/latest/
• JB1 site has no compass, but the front page and contributor page are informative and link to executablebooks. Consider updating the info on home page under "ask and answer questions" to include Discord if that is appropriate (as described above)

Starting at JB2 website is where I get confused:

• from homepage, getting to community is easy using top nav bar (but it is short): https://next.jupyterbook.org/about/community/
• Team Compass is buried at the bottom: h
• the community page seems to duplicate the contribute page of the team compass; confusing: https://compass.jupyterbook.org/contribute
  So based on this last part, your plan to replace the community page with a compass page is a great idea.

In summary, I see that there is some overlap within the whole executable books ecosystem in terms of compass, community resources (discord, forums, etc), contributions. I haven't tried to sort out how the blogs, announcements and user-focused updates work, as they are hard to find. In general, the more you can move to exectuable books as general information would help simplify things, and if you can't do this, adding a list or table with hyperlinks to these common elements for each project would be helpful. Examples: finding the link for a JB2 collab cafe; seeing if there is a blog page for JB2 and mystmd and executable books, or just 1?; see the contributing guides and/or GH repository lists for each project to see where an idea should be dropped.
