FFNx breaks soft reset for FFVIII on Steam?

Hi, I've just started replaying FFVIII and wanted to give FFNx a try.

The soft reset for the vanilla install of FFVIII on Steam is Ctrl-R. This works for the vanilla install of FFVIII on Steam.

However, after I install FFNx, Ctrl-R no longer performs a Soft Reset. This is strange, since the soft reset for FFNx appears to also be Ctrl-R.

I'm guessing that maybe the two configurations for the same Ctrl-R combination is breaking soft reset somehow? Is there a way to remap the keyboard shortcuts for FFNx's Soft Reset command so that I can get soft reset to work?

Also having this issue. can't use either the KB or gamepad soft reset shortcuts- others work though. very tedious process to restart the game manually. Using latest stable 1.22, on Steam/Linux. latest Junction VIII canary 1.2.2.6, but issue is the same on stable.

Soft reset was implemented on FFNx for FF7 because it never had the funcionality on PC, however FF8 does have it natively but you need to keep it long pressed if I'm not mistaken. Probably what we can do here is remap the shortcut to trigger it instantly instead of having to long press it. Try keeping CTRL+R pressed for 3-5 seconds and it should trigger a soft reset by default.

sorry julian, i feel like a dumbass for not trying to hold the key down- this works as expected and the delay is very short.

It's not working on ds4 controller for me (can hold a single key without dismissing the waiting dialog, but pressing an additional key closes it, no soft reset), but i'm totally happy to use the KB shortcut. Steam recognises the DS4 just fine on Linux, and using either native controller support or steam input has the same behaviour. Let me know if there's any info i can provide to help.

EDIT: also i just realised this is outside the scope of the current issue, can lodge a new one if it's worth your time.

Don't worry, both FF7 and FF8 have a lot of hidden gems we keep discover in time so you don't have to feel sorry for not knowing that.

Regarding the controller part, I'm not aware if the game has this funcitonality built for the controller ( I doubt ) so that would require us implementing as mentioned before support in FFNx to trigger that instantly via keyboard and add support for the controller as well.
