can't get it to work on ubuntu 24.04

I first tried the home row config I saw here which is why I want kanata, which didn't work so I tried configuring uinput which was not the problem. so I tried a minnimal config mappin "a" (in defsrc )to "b" (in deflayer) defconfig was empty at first andthen I tried having specific device ID(my laptop keyboard's by path ID) which again didn't work. i can't seem to get what's the problem.

If you're pressing keys with the --debug flag enabled, and nothing is printing, then as you might have guessed, kanata is simply not receiving any events from the devices it has grabbed.

Looks like it tried to grab Asus WMI hotkeys and failed to do so; my guess would be there is some ASUS software already grabbing these? But according to what I read in your post, this device isn't the primary keyboard regardless.

Unfortunately this is a case of "works on my machine"; it doesn't seem to be a bug at this time, but rather a system specific issue. Though I suppose you could try with older versions; e.g. 1.8.1 to see if 1.9.0 broke something.
