Unable to Drive DOBOT

I have dobot magician and I am working with ROS2 Jazzy Jalisco on Ubuntu 24.04 .
All the packages are installed properly and workspace is configured colcon also runs fine. I can also find my device on usb lists.
But bringup python file gets stuck.
It says trajectory validation service not available waiting again .. it is related to PTP_server1/dobot_PTP_server/DOBOT_PTP.launch.py-7

Hi @QUANTUM-ONE,

ROS 2 control stack for Dobot Magician has been tested for ROS 2 Humble Hawksbill (Ubuntu 22.04). I can't guarantee that it will work without a problem with ROS 2 Jazzy Jalisco on Ubuntu 24.04. Please attach logs from terminal, so I could take a closer look on this issue.

@QUANTUM-ONE I realize this is way old at this point but if your still having issues, I found a solution to your problem and if not maybe it will save someone else five hours of head scratching down the line (although from what I can tell its not exactly best practice when using ROS to modify the base installation but oh well, it "works").

Looking into the terminal logs produced by running the startup command ros2 launch dobot_bringup dobot_magician_control_system.launch.py with a -d flag, pybullet is not installed by default and as such needs to be. In order to due this on Ubuntu where the core python installation is managed, we need to create a virtual python environment for our ROS install. To do this, open a new terminal and paste the commands one by one below:

cd /opt/ros/
sudo apt install pythonX.XX-venv #Note (replace the X.XX with the version of python installed)
sudo python3 -m venv ./jazzy/
cd ./jazzy/bin/
sudo ./pip install pybullet

After this, I was able to succesfully run the P2P action on the latest version of Ros2 Jazzy Jalisco & Ubuntu 24.04

@QUANTUM-ONE pybullet is listed in requirements.txt, and it's being installed while executing pip3 install -r requirements.txt. See Install additional modules and packages section of README.md

@jkaniuka Because python is managed by Ubuntu for 24.04 running pip3 install -r requirements.txt results in the dependencies failing to install even if all your instructions have been followed (sudo apt install python3-pybullet also doesn't work). The reason for this as described by the terminal error is that Ubuntu now requires python to run some distro applications, and as such protects itself from pip modification, favoring apt instead. Now, I know I'm definitely at fault for missing the bright red terminal error that makes this fact blatantly clear when I first ran the install, but it also means that you do need to create that virtual environment either in the core ROS workspace or the magician workspace (which while most certainly preferable, I was tired and took the its 1 AM easy way out by adding it to the base ROS install) in order for pybullet to be installed by pip3

As it states in README, this package (and also installation manual) targets humble distro, not jazzy. I've never run in on Ubuntu 24.04

Not really. Just add --break-system-packages flag to pip3 install command 😉
