Wrong avatar picture

Avatar pictures don't match contacts. Uninstall reinstall will fix the issue for a while.

For example here my avatar is in the upper right. But when responding to a text my avatar shows as a different user.

Have you tried clearing the app's cache? If you're on Win10:

%appdata%\voice-desktop-app\Cache

Close the program, delete everything in that folder, and restart it. I was having issues with contact entries doing that a couple years ago, and clearing the cache helped me out.

This would just be a simpler workaround over reinstalling the program entirely. Much like reinstalling, you may have to do it again down the road. I have a shortcut to the directory in the start menu next to Voice as I had to do it a number of times. Hope this helps.

Thank you! I was able to fix my problem after 1) exit voice desktop in "show hidden icons" portion of taskbar 2) clear all files in %appdata%\voice-desktop-app\Cache 3) remove some common phone numbers from contacts - for some reason if two contacts have the same phone number GV will choose the avatar of the wrong contact. For example, the contact records for a husband and wife share the same home phone and don't share mobile phones. Even though the GV conversation is between their mobile numbers, having the same landline number in both contacts confuses GV resulting in the wrong avatar. 4) repeat all steps until all wrong avatars are correct --Jon

Glad that worked for you. Be prepared to have to do it again sometime in the future. Mine was caused by changing someone's contact picture on my phone.

Shame that the project seems dead. There's a pull request with some keyboard shortcuts that would be nice to have, but it seems jerrod has moved on.

Helo Jerrod - I am reaching out with an ignorant question. The forked developments of, "Google Voice Desktop App" for Mac have been very helpful, however I sadly lack skills to compile forked changes to the original Project. Might you know of an online resource I could use to teach myself how to compile the forked updates into a functional piece of software? Also, am I missing compiled forks; If I had these skills, it seems like compiling changes could help make the hard work of the "forkers" accessible to all :-).
